DUSHANBE, April 3, 2010, Asia-Plus - An exhibition of works by Tajik painters and craftsmen has opened in Ankara, Turkey today, according to the Tajik Embassy in Ankara.
Organized by the Tajik Embassy in Ankara in cooperation with Tajik Painters’ Union and Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the exhibition is being held at the Ankara Museum of Fine Arts and Sculpture, the source said.
A delegation of Tajik painters and craftsmen, led by Mr. Suhrob Qurbonov, chairman of Tajik Painters; Union, and Ms. Mukaramma Qayumova, chairperson of the Association of Craftsmen of Tajikistan “Haft Paykar,” has arrived in Ankara to participate in the exhibition that runs through April 7.
According to the source, the exhibition is dedicated to recognition of March 21 as the International Day of Navrouz.
We will recall that that on February 23, 2010, the United Nations General Assembly recognized the International Day of Navrouz. Navrouz, which means new day, is celebrated on 21 March, the day of the vernal equinox, by more than 300 million people worldwide as the beginning of the new year. The Assembly called on Member States that celebrate the festival to study its history and traditions with a view to disseminating that knowledge among the international community and organizing annual commemoration events.
